The Vice President, Hon. Samia Suluhu Hassan has instructed the Director-General for Workers Compensation Fund (WCF), to continue holding responsible employers who have not yet registered and do not submit contributions to the Fund.
The challenge was brought forward by the Vice President in her speech during the Industrial Exhibition Week held at CCM - Sabasaba Grounds in Coastal region.
She insisted that due to the growing number of industries in the country, WCF services will be highly needed thus require continuous monitoring to employers who have not yet registered or are not submitting their contributions to the Fund. The employers should adhere to this legal requirement so that the workers will recover from their compensation rights.
“The employers should register with the Fund and submit the contributions so that the Fund will be able to compensate whenever the employee get injuries at work”, she insisted.
The Industrial Exhibition Week is being held for the first time in Coastal region and different stakeholders such as employers, employees and other people have been visiting WCF pavilion so as to be given awareness on the Fund’s activities.
On the other hand, WCF was one among organizations that were awarded certificate of appreciation having been able to facilitate the exhibition.
In strengthening Social Security Sector in Tanzania, the Government introduced Workers Compensation Fund in accordance with Section 5 of the Compensation Act Cap. 263 R.E 2015. The main reason for establishment of the Fund is to provide adequate and equitable compensation for employees who suffer occupational injuries or contract occupational diseases arising out and in the course of their employment and in case of death for their dependants.
